Xingtai Grand Theatre

We want that white porcelain of Xing Kiln, the cultural and historical element of Xingtai creates an important image for this project.

We have named our concept “Cultural Vessel”, inspired by the high-quality white ceramics of the ancient Xing Kiln. Our concept carries, not only the long history of Xingtai, but also all kinds of cultural activities and charm of modern Xingtai.

CONCEPT---VESSEL OF CULTURE

What will we leave for the future? For the future generations, we will leave a memory and understanding of the long history of Xingtai.

PLANNING AND LAYOUT

Our proposal for the Xingtai Grand Theater is a compact and rational building with new types of flexible performance and meeting halls. As an urban concept, our proposal takes full advantage of the given cultural city axis in the Xingdong New Area. This pedestrian area is raised up as a City Balcony and continues over Xingzhou Avenue to the Central Eco-Park. The Grand Theater is carefully coordinated, not only with underground commercial and parking places, but also with future Science Center and Museum of Technology.

PERFORMANCE FUNCTIONS

The functional theatre concept is composed of the large and fully flexible main auditorium for art performances (western opera, theater, music, dance) and large-scale conferences, but can also serve for commercial meetings and exhibitions.

We have located a “Conference Garden” balcony on top of the main hall, containing four flexible multipurpose halls for smaller performances like local opera and music groups and for meetings and art exhibitions.

ECOLOGICAL DESIGN

We think that it is user-friendly to have one centralized main entrance to all these different performance and meeting areas. To solve the easy and comfortable entrance, our proposal is based on the very large “Garden Lobby” as the entrance zone. From that central lobby, there is an easy access to the main auditorium and to all multipurpose halls on the “Conference Garden” balcony level, whether the visitors come from the commercial and parking area underground drop-of level, or they arrive as pedestrians from the level of the central city axis.

The building with a green “Garden Lobby” and the green “Conference Garden” balcony creates an at-tractive image of the new type of ecological building, which is part of the park and the park is a part of the building.

We also suggest building the floor on top of the Conference Garden balcony in the form of an innovative “Performance Village”, using timber structures, covered by a large “Solar Forest” roof.

All these sustainability references, together with a façade of white ceramic tiles, aim to be a symbol for a new sustainable future of Xingtai.
